Job Responsibilities:

Teach mainly adults the joys of partnership dancing, including but not limited to Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa, Bachata, swing, cha-cha, rumba, bolero, etc. Constant training and improvement of one’s own dance skills, perform dance routines at shows, competitions, and in-studio events. Lesson planning and student relationship building are key.  Must perform sales/administrative duties as needed; which could include follow up sales phone calls, processing payments, and responding to lesson inquiries.

Qualifications:

MUST HAVE some previous dance experience, preferably ballroom, either as a student or teacher. MUST have great interpersonal communication skills, be lively, upbeat, positive and above all self-motivated and driven, dedicated, passionate and have common sense. Must have no fear of sales and be willing to work hard for success

Training Provided:

Continued dance instructor training will be provided, as well as customer service skills, and sales/administrative training.

Position details:

How much previous dance experience do I need?
Fred Astaire Dance Studio Instructors hail from all over the country, and all over the world! Many have Fine Arts degrees and are actively-competing, award-winning professional dancers. Most Instructors have prior dance experience from a class or professional setting. Because of our thorough and comprehensive instructor training and certification program, prior teaching experience is recommended but is not necessarily required.

What are the working hours at Fred Astaire Dance Studios?
Most Fred Astaire Dance Studios operate anywhere from 11am to 10pm Monday through Friday, to accommodate our students’ busy and varied schedules. Many studios also conduct lessons, practice parties, team matches and / or coaching sessions on Saturdays.
Are Fred Astaire Dance Instructor positions full-time or part-time?
At Fred Astaire Dance Studios, we generally hire our instructors full-time, as there is a lot of on-the-job training involved and we are looking for dance instructors who are interested in a career, not just a job. Many studios offer full time employees paid vacation, health insurance and some may also offer retirement plans. Note that some studios may also have part-time positions available.
What can I wear to teach?
The specific dress code is set by the studio, but in general Fred Astaire Certified Dance Instructors dress professionally for dance lessons, in clothing that is appropriate & comfortable for partner dancing. In most Fred Astaire Dance Studios, this means slacks, dress shirts and ties for the gentlemen; and skirts, dresses, or slacks for the ladies – and of course, approved dance shoes for everyone. For activities, events and matches, the dress code may vary.
