Three Families of Latin Dances
American Rhythm
International Latin
Samba, cha cha, rumba, paso doble and jive. In Latin ballroom dance classes, you’ll meet the samba’s Brazilian bounce, the paso doble’s bullfight drama and the jive’s swing-era kicks. They ask for sharp technique and strong posture, and they’re also the route into competition.

Club Latin
Salsa, bachata and merengue, the dances you’ll see on a club night. These Latin American dance classes focus on social dancing.
They’re danced close, with plenty of hip movement, and they’re forgiving when the floor gets crowded. If salsa is your main goal, it has its own salsa classes.
Taught by a Pan American Champion
Every dance instructor here is certified in the Fred Astaire Dance Studios curriculum. The team comes from around the world, and many of them are award-winning competitors with Fine Arts degrees. You can read each person’s background on our staff page.
Instructor Jose Zuquilanda started ballroom at 10 in Ecuador and went on to represent his country, winning seven national titles and three Pan American championships. He reached finals in Latin America, Europe and the United States, then moved to Connecticut to train under his coach and mentor, Dirk Heidemann. He now teaches children, teens and adults at the studio.

Ballroom and Latin Dance Classes Side by Side
Plenty of students take ballroom and Latin dance classes at the same time. The smooth dances teach posture and travel around the floor, while the Latin side teaches rhythm, hip action and quick footwork. Each one fills a gap the other leaves.
Latin ballroom lessons pay off on the smooth side too: a rumba walk teaches the kind of balance that makes a foxtrot feel smoother. Knowing both also helps at weddings and parties, where the band can switch from a waltz to a cha cha without warning.
The two also share the same lead and follow, so what you learn in one carries over. Our ballroom dance lessons take care of the waltz, foxtrot and the rest of the smooth side.
Latin Dance Classes for Beginners
Latin dance classes for beginners break hip action and rhythm down slowly. You’ll count the music first, then add the Cuban motion that comes from bending and straightening the knees. Once the hips start moving on their own, the rest of the dance tends to follow.
Your Latin dance lessons start with private sessions, where your instructor partners you if you come alone. Group classes and practice parties follow, and couples can book together from the start. Trying it costs $35 per person through the introductory offer, which includes your first private lesson.
Reviews From Our Dancers
What I love most is that this studio feels like more than just dance lessons—it feels like a community. There is great energy, lots of encouragement, and so many opportunities to learn, improve, and enjoy dancing.

Majority of our lessons were with Yuliya or Jose. They were both really good. They choreographed a dance for us so quickly, based on our skill level and our music choice. We started our lessons pretty early on (April time-frame for a November wedding). So, we completed our 10 private dance lessons well ahead of our wedding. We enjoyed it so much, that we purchased an additional 10 private dance lessons to get us in tip-top shape for our wedding.

Tanya is fantastic! She was my instructor and she just had a way about taking my nervousness away the moment she took my hand. I found out later that she does makeup and they are very reasonably priced for makeup for an event. I did a test run and everyone kept telling me how stunning it was. It was definitely Pro level work and I can't recommend the place enough! If I could do 10 Stars I would.

Questions Students Ask Us
Will Latin Dance Lessons Help My Salsa?
Yes. Latin dance lessons sharpen the timing, hip action and spins that salsa relies on. The cha cha and mambo in particular share a lot of salsa’s footwork.
What's the Difference Between Latin Ballroom and Club Latin?
Latin ballroom dance classes teach set technique and figures built for showcases and competition, like the samba or paso doble. Club Latin, like salsa and bachata, is made for social dancing and leaves more room to improvise. Both are taught here, and you’re free to mix them.
Do You Teach Bachata?
Yes, bachata is part of our Latin American dance classes, alongside salsa and merengue. Its basic step is three steps and a hip accent on the fourth count, which makes it one of the friendlier dances to start with. The close hold also makes it a favorite for couples.
Are All Latin Dance Schools Taught the Same Way?
No, Latin dance schools follow different systems, and some focus only on club dancing. Here, every instructor teaches from the Fred Astaire Dance Studios curriculum, which covers American Rhythm, International Latin and club styles in one structured path. The rumba you learn connects to the cha cha, the mambo and the rest.
Can I Compete in Latin Dancing?
You can. Latin dancing lessons can lead to showcases, spotlights and competitions if you want to perform. Competing is always optional, and plenty of students simply enjoy dancing socially.
