“What do you want to do tonight?”
“I don’t know. What do you want to do?”
You’ve had this discussion, right? And then you fall into the old pattern – on goes the TV, off goes the personal connection.
You need to shake it up a little. You need a new activity, a hobby that you can share with another person or even revel in on your own.
Wikipedia describes a hobby this way: A hobby is a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one’s leisure time. Hobbies can include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements.
Dancing combines the creative and artistic pursuits and aspects of playing sports, in that dance is a wonderful way to exercise (and we have competitions, too).
Think about it. Dance lessons provide a break from work and other obligations, put you in the arms of another person and get your feet moving and your cardiovascular system working. It’s fun and engaging and it can be as challenging as you like.
Psychology Today’s Happy Trails Blog offers six great reasons to take up a hobby. Among them are fostering social connections, becoming more interesting to others as you grow enthused over your new interest, and coping with stress.
