Reason #101 Not to Learn Ballroom

Whenever you’re starting something new, there are lots of reasons you can create to avoid doing it.

It’s uncomfortable, I know, to be the new person, step into a new place, wonder if you’ll “get it” or make friends or whatever. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.

So it’s time to silence the discouraging voices in your head and just press forward. Sign up for a ballroom dance lesson. Give it a try. And see what unfolds.

People come up to me at events and when they learn that I own a ballroom dance studio, many say, “Oh, I’ve always wanted to learn to dance! I just don’t have the time.”

Um, well, we make time for the things that are important to us. Perhaps dance isn’t important to you yet. It can be, if you give it a try.

One lesson, or a month of lessons, doesn’t guarantee you’ll be reordering your life to fit dance into every free corner. No one’s making a lifelong commitment. If you’re curious, just try one lesson and see what happens. It might be pretty great, and then what?
I feel frustrated when potential customers express this dichotomy – I’ve always wanted to learn to dance, BUT

I want to help them fulfill that dream. I got into this business because I loved dancing, and I wanted to bring that love to other people. I believe in it – the rush of adrenaline and endorphins from a great lesson, the grace and elegance of gliding across the floor no matter your body type or height or level of skill.

The sheer fun of it – you can’t help but smile.

Why do we find reasons not to do something we think will be fun? Why don’t we make time for ourselves and our dreams?

Is life so routine that we can’t bear to be unscripted just for a little while?

Let’s try something new, just this once, and see how it changes our lives for the better. We have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
