The greatest thing about dancing is its magical ability to put a smile on faces and transform mundane tasks into lively, memorable experiences. With National Dance Week coming up April 19-28, here are 5 ways you can work dancing into part of your everyday life – it’s easy, and fun!
Dance in the shower. Feeling a bit nostalgic for that scene from Home Alone 2 where Kevin McAllister has a dancing inflatable clown in the shower to trick the hotel concierge? Do it for real! Blast tunes in the bathroom, use the shower head as a microphone, and pump your arms. Just don’t slip on the tiles!
Dance in the living room with your partner or child. Shake up your usual routine – turn on after-dinner music and bust some moves with your partner, your child or your pet! Learn the moves to the “Wobble,” revive your choreographed “First Dance” wedding moves to spark romance, or create 15 minutes of energy-burning to help your little ones fall asleep more quickly. Yes, this counts as a workout!
Watch a dance movie. Not ready to dance in the kitchen? No problem! Live vicariously through people, or actors, who do…watch a movie that revolves around dance. Maybe you’ll end up tapping your feet to the beat like Richard Gere in Shall We Dance or Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing! (read more about dance movies)
Incorporate dancing into your chores. There’s no question that household chores like mopping the floor or vacuuming the stairs are begrudgingly boring – but a must! Make necessary home activities drastically more interesting – possibly even fun – when that mop or vacuum magically morphs into the perfect dance partner! Do some spins, work on your Cha Cha, even incorporate a dip or a lift into the mix. No one said cleaning your house couldn’t be enjoyable!
Take dance lessons at FADS. Coordinate a “couples adventure” with a group of your married friends and neighbors – or bravely step a dance-y toe into our studio on your own! Take the first step toward a dance-filled future by signing up for lessons. You might get hyped up enough to turn it into a competition! Dance lessons can be a great change-of-pace date night that everyone enjoys. (We can’t wait to dance with you!)
