It’s amazing how busy we’ve been this summer.
I must say, we’ve never experienced such a successful summer! Usually, around July 4th, we slow down. In fact, in the past, we’ve closed the studio for July 4th week because we knew we would have few students.
Not this year.
This year, perhaps because July 4th was a mid-week holiday, we closed for one day only, the actual holiday. The other four days, we were swamped.
I am not kidding. Swamped as in more than 150 lessons that week, and it was a four-day week, with three teachers on vacation.
This is crazy! A good kind of crazy, of course.
The week of July 16th, we taught 292 private lessons. That’s unprecedented for the middle of July! Frankly, it’s unprecedented for our studio in general – our previous record was 275 private lessons in a week.
I know some of this can be attributed to students preparing for competitions coming up or getting ready to perform in our August show. Some are practicing before their wedding, or the wedding of their children. But that’s not enough to put us over the mark in such a robust way.
People just want to learn to dance, and they’re not hesitating because it’s beautiful outside and they could golf or go boating or sit leisurely by the pool.
They’re coming inside for an hour of swing or fox trot or rumba. It’s an activity they don’t want to halt for the summer.
I’ve never seen such a healthy July, and I’m loving it!
Generally, summer is a slow season. I guess we can say goodbye to that assumption because it looks like our passion for dance is infectious. People are being bitten by the bug, and they just won’t stop. They must dance. And they must dance with us.
There’s a fever in our studio, and it’s for dancing. The sky is truly the limit when you love to dance. You can always craft a new routine, find a song that inspires you, kick it up a notch, commit to competing at a new event.
When you’re part of a vibrant community like ours, you just don’t want to leave.
