This week is a big week for our students and teachers. It’s Michigan Dance Challenge week, the biggest ballroom competition in the state of Michigan and one which we have won as top studio for the past two years. We’re planning to take first place again this year, since we bring the most Michigan students to compete in the most dances.
Each year, approximately 30 Fred Astaire Dance Studio students attend and compete in the Michigan Dance Challenge at The Henry hotel in Dearborn. For some, it’s their very first dance competition, while others are seasoned veterans at competing.
Statewide Dance Talent
Michigan Dance Challenge is the largest dance competition in Michigan, so it means a lot when we are named Top Studio because it’s not just within the Fred Astaire brand. Sure, when we compete against other Fred Astaire studios across the country, we love winning – and we often do!
But this is an opportunity to showcase the talent of our students and teachers to everyone in the ballroom world.
Last year, 23 of our students competed in more than 1,000 entries at Michigan Dance Challenge, which brings together ballroom dancers from across the state, throughout the Midwest, and also Florida, the East Coast and Canada.
Taking Home Top Accolades
This is always an excellent event and a fun one, too. Every year, I am extremely proud to see our students dancing at high levels, and having fun while doing so. That’s a testament to our instructors and how they work with our students, truly teaching them to dance rather than just moving them around the floor.
Perhaps the best part of all is that not only seasoned veterans who’ve competed many times before participate in Michigan Dance Challenge – even new students come out to compete and take home top awards!
Kudos to all of our FADS Michigan dancers. We’re so proud of you, and so glad you’re dancing with us!
