How Long Will It Take For Me To Become a Good Dancer?

August Guest Coaches Being a “good dancer” means different things to different people. To some people, it means being able to dance socially and join the fun at any event where there are people dancing. To other people, it means learning to dance competitively.

At Fred Astaire Dance Studios, we make learning how to dance (socially and competitively) easy and fun! We have established a three-phase instruction program that has proven to help individuals achieve their personal goals.

Beginner: Most people aren’t experienced dancers when they decide to take lessons, so instructors will start them here. As a beginner, students take four to eight private lessons over the course of a month while enjoying free group lessons and practice parties. After that first month, you’ll have a simple understanding of the basic styles of dance, but won’t be too comfortable with your skills yet.

Social Foundation: After the Beginner phase, students have a better understanding of the basic styles of dance and are more comfortable with dancing around other people. At this point, people move to the social foundation stage where they have the opportunity to choose four dances to learn thoroughly. During this level, they will take 12-15 lessons.

Bronze Level: Over the course of three to six months, students take 30-75 lessons to work on clean technique. This program is completely tailored to the individual client.

It’s important to remember that everyone is different and not everyone learns at the same speed. The student’s personal goal depends on how often they practice. However, joining a Fred Astaire Dance Studio’s program will provide you with all of the knowledge and resources you need to become a “good dancer” – no matter how you define it!
