Our dance instructors come from many different backgrounds and areas around the world. Many hold Fine Arts degrees and continue to compete as accomplished, award-winning professional dancers. In addition, every instructor completes extensive training to become — and stay — certified in the Fred Astaire Dance Curriculum, a respected teaching system created by Fred Astaire himself and exclusive to our organization. Definitely not! We welcome both singles and couples at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Tucson. If you join our ballroom dancing studio as a single student, your dance instructor will partner with you during private dance lessons, while our group classes and practice parties create plenty of opportunities to meet — and dance with — other students who share similar ballroom dancing interests and goals!
We strongly encourage students to schedule their dance lessons close together, especially when first starting ballroom dancing. Shorter gaps between lessons help you retain more information, reduce the amount of review needed, and allow you to build confidence in your dancing more quickly. We also suggest combining private dance lessons with group classes and practice sessions, as this approach is one of the most successful and efficient ways to learn ballroom dancing and stay inspired in Tucson, AZ.
Private dance lessons involve one student or a couple working directly with one or two Dance Instructors. These ballroom dancing lessons are customized around your individual goals and experience level. Learning at a pace that feels comfortable for you is one of the best ways to improve, and private instruction allows that to happen. A common misunderstanding about private lessons is that they happen separately from everyone else. In reality, several private dance lessons are usually taking place together inside our Tucson ballroom! We — along with our students — believe that practicing in this type of environment helps everyone feel more prepared for real social ballroom dancing situations. Private dance lessons are available by appointment only and can be scheduled during regular studio hours by contacting the dance studio directly.
Our group dance lessons are created to complement private Lessons and include several students learning together with one Dance Instructor. These ballroom dancing classes cover a variety of dance styles and topics designed to improve your technique, confidence, physical fitness, and overall understanding of ballroom dancing. Students of every experience level are encouraged to participate. Group dance lessons are commonly offered during both afternoon and evening hours throughout the week, depending on availability.
Our ballroom dancing practice sessions are held inside the studio and help prepare you for social dancing outside of class. During practice sessions, we lower the lights, play great music, and create a fun, party-style atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. These dance lessons give you the chance to practice material learned in your private lessons and group classes without feeling the pressure of performing in front of the public. Students attend to enjoy themselves, improve their skills, and dance! Students also have opportunities to meet and dance with fellow students, along with other instructors.
Not always. To help fit your busy lifestyle, we try to keep our scheduling as flexible as possible, although we may not always be able to reserve the exact same lesson time each week. To secure your preferred dance lesson times, we recommend scheduling your ballroom dancing lessons several weeks ahead and in sequence. Group dance lesson schedules may change depending on the dance style and skill level, allowing all students the opportunity to participate. Practice sessions are generally held at a consistent time each week.
We understand that some students come to dance lessons directly from work, while others prefer to dress more casually for their ballroom dancing lessons — both options are perfectly acceptable. The most important thing is wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and comfortably during your lesson. Naturally, choosing comfortable shoes is also important. We recommend leather-soled shoes for gentlemen and shoes with a secure back for ladies, similar to footwear you might wear for social ballroom dancing. Athletic shoes do NOT perform well on the ballroom floor because they grip too much, which can make moving your feet more difficult during dance lessons.
No, it isn’t! Our dance instructors are experienced, supportive professionals who continue their dance education and ballroom dancing training throughout their careers. In addition, our step-by-step teaching method and exclusive trophy system help make dance lessons easier and more enjoyable to follow. While it does take some time to master different ballroom dances and build a strong variety of dance steps, consistent instruction and regular practice can lead to noticeable improvement faster than most people expect. We strongly recommend scheduling your dance lessons close together. You’ll advance more efficiently, and your ballroom dancing experience in Tucson will become even more rewarding.
